Butwal: Under Construction

Piles of stones and mud, heavy trucks, dust, under-construction notices, half-dug earth, models of bulldozers, cranes and forklifts- are what decorate Butwal these days. In short, Butwal now is under construction.

If you were off of Butwal for several months (or years) and happen to enter here now, you will come across a feeling that you are passing through a under-construction site. Starting from the Chauraha, the four lane (or a six one), that is not completed yet is a havoc and adding to it the thick air of dust and smoke from the vehicles. You would for certainly feel sorry for not carrying a mask and goggles when you are at open. There are potholes that would tear off the tough tyres of your vehicles and the bumps they provide will not be any dearer to your backs. Be ready for a bumpy-ride throughout the roads of Butwal. If you are not a stranger in this land, then only you can figure it out that the randomly moving vehicles and hurry-to-reach people are cultural phenomenon. Lets pray alogn with the constitution comes morale and ethics of people to understand and oblige to civil senses. Also, i saw that the drains were so small- will this is optimum for managing the drainage system of growing Butwal? The answer is obvious in simple mathematics- NO!

Now, the second thing on cosntruction. If your house is near to Amarpath or Haat Bazaaar line, you for sure would know the drain that passes through, well a good news is that the drain would be an income generating hub now. How? Well thats a good question, and if you are student of planning, economics or sociology, it is worth an answer. Well the answer is, a road will be made above the drain and the back of the Amarpath that was inaccessible before would no more be so. With paved road, will come new shopes in those place and that will earn Butwal some extra revenue. Plus this would certainly help in traffic managment and would provide a new avenue for shopaholics. But, what is kept in mind is the challenge for wastage management in here.

Third in this list, is the miserable one. One living in Butwal is certainly attached with Tinau river. Yes our Tinau Khola, where some of us have memories back in childhood days (i do have some). Well to your shock, you will not find that river in Butwal now. It seems like, a multimillion project is ongoing in the place where the river was. The contract for stones and muds is emptyign the river and the concerned authority might have just ignored the adverse effect in ecological as well as daily life of Butwal in emptying the river. I cannot alone stop this, and alone cannot advocate for this, but we all can.
Save Butwal, let it not be under construction for always, let’s be part in what is being good, we must; but on something that is not in track do not think it’s not your business, because the fact is - its everyone's business.
